March 20, 1968 — JANET GUNTER TO WED

Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Gunter, Sagle, announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Janet Louise and Jack F. Filanoski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Filanoski, Stamford, Conn. The wedding is April 6 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sagle.

HAYES SHOWED OIL PAINTINGS

Beta Sigma Phi, Idaho Nu Chapter, met with 20 members, four pledges and sponsor Margaret Walker present. Mary Neuder and Wayv Gill were in charge of the program. Local artist Eugene Hayes demonstrated landscape painting and various techniques of oil painting.

FATTER KOKANEE IS THE GOAL

Approximately 30 local fishermen spent the weekend of March 2-3 in the Balfour area fishing for Canadian Kokanee and whitefish, according to Ed Abromeit, one of the anglers. Abromeit says the larger fish, fed on the mysis shrimp, are a real attraction and he hopes the shrimp planted in Lake Pend Oreille will soon add to the feed for local Kokanee. Raising his hopes is the spread of the shrimp planted last year in the lake.

GRASSMAN WINNER HONORED

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wood, Gold Creek, were honored at the March meeting of the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce. The Wood family was 1967 Bonner County Grassman of the Year.

Lt. Don Stewart who left with old Company A, graduated as an observer in the aviation service, taking his first flight last month. At last report he had been transferred to the 146th artillery.

ARMSTEAD MINES TO RESUME WORK

The Armstead mines will, the first of the month, resume development work which was stopped on completion of the tunnel, and will begin erecting the mill planned since the tunnels exposed the size of the ore bodies. Armstead is still back east consulting with his backers.

FOOD WILL WIN THE WAR

If each of our 22,000,000 families use this recipe instead of white bread for three loaves a week for a year, 1,716,000,000 pounds of flour will be saved, enough to feed the entire Allied Army! Corn Bread with Rye Flour recipe: 1 cup corn meal, 1 c. rye flour, 2 tbsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt, 1 c. milk, 1 egg, 2 tbsp. shortening.

NEWS FROM THE B BOYS IN ST. MARIES

The busiest man in St. Maries is Captain Taylor. Well, several of the wobblies are equally rushed.

Dad Hartman is doing guard duty better than the most of us and doesn’t seem to mind the atmospheric conditions in the least.
