Bulldogs blank Spartans in combined no-hitter

| March 22, 2018 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — The Bulldogs plated 11 first inning runs, and three pitchers combined on a no-hitter in Tuesday’s 26-0 win over the 3A Spartans in nonleague baseball action at Priest River Jr. High.

Jacob Cometto, Garrett Connolly and Kade MacDonald each score three runs and had multiple hits, and Alex Stockton showed two of his five tools by smashing a ball deep to the gap in right center and racing around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, his second bomb of the season.

Thomas Riley struck out the side in his one inning of work in relief of starter Tyler Lehman, who struck out three batters in two innings, and Tristan Authier, who struck out two in his two innings for the combined no-hit effort.

The Spartans (0-1) used a bevy of starters in their first game of the year, as a young and rebuilding team hosted a tough opener against one of the better 4A teams in the state. The Spartans played Newport Wednesday, travel to Riverside on Thursday and host Deer Park on Saturday in a busy opening week.

The Bulldogs (3-1) host Kellogg in a doubleheader on Saturday, with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. at War Memorial Field.
