Chorale Coeur d’Alene presents “Requiem”, a concert of two masterworks, on Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. The concert will also be held on April 8 at Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox in Spokane.

The 70-member chorale is accompanied by piano, organ and chamber orchestra presenting two non-traditional settings of the beloved requiem, Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem in D minor” and Dan Forrest’s “Requiem for the Living”.

Though the requiem form traditionally mourns the dead, these particular works are meant for the living and bring messages of hope, comfort and assurance to a chaotic world. The Fauré work is positively ethereal, and is likely familiar to a number of you, chorale members said. Dan Forrest is an American composer living and working in Greenville, S.C.; while those singing in church choirs may be familiar with his SATB anthems his larger works — including “Requiem for the Living” — are only now being performed and receiving well deserved accolades. This one is magic.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and active military and $10 for students. They are available at Trinity Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church and Northwest Music Center in Coeur d’Alene, foxtheaterspokane.org (for tickets to the Spokane concert), ChoraleCdA.com (for tickets to all concerts) and from any chorale member.
