Hathaway hosting disc golf tourney fundraiser

| March 27, 2018 1:00 AM

CLARK FORK — Clark Fork sophomore Sara Hathaway is hoping to represent her hometown in track and field at the Down Under Bowl in Australia in July, but first she has to raise the money to make the trip possible.

With that in mind, Hathaway will host the Down Under Disc Golf Tournament, for anyone ages 15 and older on Saturday, April 7 at the Wampus Park disc golf course in Clark Fork.

Down Under sports offers high school students the opportunity to visit Australia for 10 days to travel and compete in either track, football, golf, volleyball, basketball and cross country.

Hathaway broke her own school record to finish 4th at state last year as a freshman in the high jump, also finishing 5th in the 100 hurdles and 12th in the 100. With a bright future in the sport, she’s hoping to raise enough money at the disc golf tourney to help make the summer trip possible, where she will compete in the same three events as state.

Hathaway has raised just over $1,000, and is hoping to equal that and hit her goal.

All skill levels are welcome in the disc golf tourney, held on the brand new 18 hole course. Cost to enter the one-day tourney, which will feature two divisions, is $15 per player. Ages 15-18 will register from 8-8:30 a.m. with the tournament to follow, while 19 years and older will register from 12:30-1 p.m. with tournament to follow.

There will be disc golf clinics from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., so come out and learn some new tricks and skills. Only the first 36 people to sign up for each tournament are guaranteed a spot, so act quickly. Tournament competitors will get player packs, with mini discs, golf pencils, stickers and raffle tickets.
