2018 marks the 10-year anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision D.C. vs. Heller, in which the Court held that the Second Amendment protects a person’s right to have a firearm for lawful purposes including self-defense.
In 2002, Dick Heller, a Washington, D.C., special police officer who was authorized to carry a handgun while on duty but not while at home, filed a complaint that this was a violation of his Second Amendment rights.
Mr. Heller prevailed in his fight. This month, having heard of Rep. Heather Scott’s tireless and successful efforts to protect gun rights in our state, he personally endorsed her with the following announcement:
“Every legislature in all 50 states needs a Heather Scott. Idaho needs Heather Scott in the Legislature. She has stood on the front line defending our Second Amendment rights. Please vote for Heather and send her back to Boise for another term.”
Mr. Heller, Larry Pratt from Gun Owners of America and the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance all have recognized Rep. Scott for her efforts in the State House. I couldn’t agree more.
On May 15, please vote for Rep. Heather Scott to let her know we appreciate her outstanding work in Boise. We want her to continue to defend gun rights for all of us, whether we own, carry, or enjoy all the other constitutional rights protected by our Second Amendment.
