Lynn Emil Berg, 71
Lynn Emil Berg was born to Witalis Emil and Beryl Viva Berg on August 18, 1946, in Newport, Washington. He lived on Selle Road before his family moved to what is now known as Colburn Culver Road, northeast of Sandpoint, Idaho. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 29, 2018. He was 71 years old.
When he started school, Lynn went to Northside Elementary when it was finished and graduated from the eighth grade there. He then went to Sandpoint High School until he graduated. After graduation, Lynn joined the Navy and spent a few years working on a sub rescue ship in places like San Diego, Vietnam, Pearl Harbor, and other locations.
After Lynn was discharged, he came home and was reunited with a childhood friend’s sister. Lynn married Bonnie Ann Decker on Aug. 28, 1970, and shortly after, Lynn adopted his daughter, Brenda Lee. On Feb. 18, 1971, Lynn and Bonnie welcomed their son, Brian Lynn. Lynn and Bonnie were happily married until Bonnie passed on Nov. 24, 2006.
Lynn accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 1986 and was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. While growing up, and as an adult, Lynn was involved in Boy Scouts, and loved to hunt, fish, and camp. Lynn and Bonnie enjoyed being on a bowling league in Sandpoint. Lynn also enjoyed square dancing with his wife and two granddaughters and was a member of the Circle and Swing square dance group. He was also involved for many years with the local VFW post.
Lynn was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, Witalis and Beryl Berg; his wife, Bonnie Berg; his sister, Rose (Claude) Raines; his in-laws, Beryl (Walter) Morgan and Leroy (Neta) Decker; his brother-in-law, Allan Decker; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He is survived by his son, Brian Lynn Berg, from Sandpoint; his daughter, Brenda Lee Berg from Tucson, Arizona; his granddaughters, Melody Starr VanZomeran-Frazer and Crystal Rae VanZomeran; four great-grandchildren, Amadeus, Michael, Jade and Hailey. He is also survived by his two brothers, Jerry (Chom) Berg from Spokane, Washington, and Victor (Patty) Berg of Sandpoint; his in-laws, Mary (Del) Glazier of Laclede, Idaho, Purley (Rita) Decker of Hope, Idaho, and Janie Decker from Moscow, Idaho; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and people who call him friend, or “family.”
Graveside services will be held at Pack River Cemetery, on Colburn Culver Road, on May 4, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Dan Ford will be officiating. A potluck dinner will be held at Vic and Patty Berg’s house at 6120 Colburn Culver Road. You can contact them, if you need to, at 208-263-7317.
