There are two public hearings scheduled in May regarding the proposed railroad bridge projects.
I would like to know the views of each candidate for county commissioner on the impact of such a project, and why they support or oppose approval of a construction permit.
I would ask the candidates for assessor their view in regards the potential impact on general property valuations caused by the increased rail traffic, noise, traffic delay, and unsightly double track bridge and additional rail traffic brought by this project? I would specifically ask the potential impact on adjacent property owners such as the Seasons Resort, Ponder Point and nearby businesses and residences?
Last, if they support approval of the permit for the rail project I would ask a follow-up question: “What’s in it for Bonner County residents?” What do we get in return for this massive intrusion by BNSF into our lives and environment? Do we get quiet zones along Highway 200 and Highway 95 at BNSF expense? Sound barrier walls? Beautification efforts and increased landscaping to hide the behemoths?
