Bulldogs notch 4A IEL dual win over Hawks

SANDPOINT — Charlie Johnson and Tyler McNamee scored a three set win at No. 1 boys doubles, and the Bulldog girls swept the singles in decisive fashion, leading Sandpoint to a 8-4 win over Lakeland in a 4A Inland Empire League tennis dual Thursday at Travers Park and Lakeview Courts.
Johnson and McNamee were down 5-4 in the third set, before closing things out with three straight games.
“Tyler dominated those last three games sticking crisp volleys to the open court over and over,” described Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson. “Charlie’s calm, consistent strokes and smooth serve throughout the match kept the pressure on their opponents.”
Allura Livingston, Jenny Slaveck and Alana Seifert continue to impress, each winning 6-0, 6-1 in a dominating showing. Amy and April Clark never lost on their serve, and Alyssa Webster and Hadley Goodvin made it a clean sweep in doubles, as well as for the girls team.
Tessa Beeman and Noah Hastings teamed up for the first time and scored a big win at No. 1 mixed.
“Noah’s athleticism at the net and Tessa’s classic ground strokes make a lethal combination,” praised Anderson. “These guys look district-ready.”
Declan Plummer used power overheads and heavy topspin forehands to win at No. 1 boys singles.
The Bulldogs will get a big test on Saturday, when they host the Bears at 10 a.m., arguably the strongest team in North Idaho, and always-strong Lewiston at 2 p.m., offering a great tune-up for districts.
