Barn dance scheduled at Fox place

A necktie and apron barn dance will be held at the John Fox farm at Thama siding Saturday night. Every woman and girl must wear an apron and have a tie to match the apron sealed in an envelope. The ties will be sold for 75 cents, which will includes dance and supper.

Denton Halfway House sold

Major Denton has sold his ranch and Halfway House to Mr. Lindstrom, a son-in-law of Mike Murray.

90 Years Ago—1928

Jones Auto Freight Line established

An auto freight line between Priest River and Spokane has been established by the Jones Garage, Inc., a couple of trips having been made last week.

80 Years Ago—1938

PR time restored to norm

Daylight saving time was of short duration in Priest River. All merchants who had signed up for the fast time went back on the regular schedule Tuesday after a one-day trial. It was the opinion of all as long as there was not 100 percent cooperation it would not work out well.

70 Years ago—1948

Cabin camp to be constructed

Roland Norton of Tensed, Idaho, has purchased property east of Midway on the Albeni Falls highway and will immediately begin construction of a cabin camp.

60 Years Ago—1958

Parsons to have grand opening

Frank Parsons of Parsons Sales and Service, Homelite chain saw dealer, will have a grand opening of his new building May 10 and 11. The building, located at the ‘Y’ west of town, has 400 feet of floor space and an all glass front. Parsons has enlarged his stock to include a full line of sporting goods, as well as Homelite chain saws.

50 Years ago—1968

Naccarato elected, school levy fails

The two mill levy which was to have been used for district personnel salaries was turned down by electors of District No. 82 by an unofficial but decisive 911 ‘no’ votes to 394 ‘yes’ in the May 7 election. In Trustee Zone 1 Roland “Bud” Naccarato edged out incumbent Frank Parsons by a slim margin of nine votes, 156-147.

40 Years Ago—1978

Southern Baptist form new chapel

The newly formed Priest River Baptist Chapel, sponsored by Faith Baptist Church, Sandpoint, and the Utah-Idaho Southern Baptist Convention, will be holding worship services every Tuesday evening at the Priest River VFW Hall with Pastor Barry Sherwood officiating. A Bible School, including Sunday School, is being organized, and a Vacation Bible School running from June 12-16 for children will also be held.

30 Years Ago—1988

Coach finds time for kids

The baseball program in Priest River has been a resounding success this year. With 12 teams playing in the various age levels offered, PR baseball is looking towards a bright future as it gains momentum and community support.

A great deal of credit for the program’s present achievement must go to John Mullaley, who has given much time and effort to building a strong baseball league for the young of Priest River.

”Because our high school doesn’t have a baseball program, I feel strongly that we need a good, strong little league for the kids who live here,” said Mullaley.

Kinnie becomes new publisher

The staff of the Priest River Times is proud to introduce its new publisher, Pamela Kinnie. She replaces former publisher, Linda Jordan, who resigned in March.

10 Years Ago—2008

Honor students named

Katie Swanson is the 2007-2008 PRLHS salutatorian, and Toriana Paris and Cystal Nelson will share valedictorian honors. The trio has participated in numerous clubs, sports and organizations while obtaining outstanding GPA’s.
