SANDPOINT — Record setting Sandpoint senior Hannah Davidson will take her running talents to the next level, signing recently to run track and cross country next season at Division 1 Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

Davidson recently broke the SHS 1,600 record, clocking a 5:10.74, which is also the top ranked time in 4A this season. Her time of 2:18.55 at the Pasco Invitational is the second fastest time in the state in 4A, and close to her school record of 2:18.1, so she clearly has the speed and ability to compete at the next level.

She owns a runner up finish in the 800 as a sophomore, and a third place finish as a junior, and is hoping to break through for her first state title as a senior, in either the 1,600 or 800, or possibly even both, a rare and difficult double to attain.

Distance coach Angie Brass sees a runner with all the skills to hold her own at the next level, competing for an Aggies team that qualified for the NCAA National Cross Country Championships for the first time in program history in 2017.

“Calm, dependable, devoted to her team and training. From the freshman looking up to her veteran leaders, to a confident front runner and excellent team leader, always executes the race as planned,” said Bulldog distance coach Angie Brass of Davidson. “She brings an intensity and aggressiveness to her races that helps her team follow suit.”

Davidson has competed in state in both cross country and track for four years, including a state cross country championship as a freshman and second place finish as a sophomore. She finished 8th individually at state as a senior to cap a stellar XC career.

Davidson is also a medal contending pole vaulter, and will run a leg on the 4x400 relay team, possessing the rare ability to score in four events at state.

“A shining example of hard work, how to be a great teammate, of year-round training and discipline, of devotion to teammates and your sport,” said Angie Brass. “She has helped to set the bar high and has been instrumental in building the success in the girls programs at SHS.”
