A hundred years ago, when our ancestors wanted to enter the forests to hunt, fish, camp, pick berries they had only two choices: on foot or on horseback. Nowadays numerous mechanical devices make entering most of the forests a snap: with four-wheelers, snowmobiles, dirt bikes one can access almost all of our national forests in no time at all. Nonetheless, some of us old folks still prize the old methods of access and want those to remain for our children and grandchildren. In our current hurried and harried lives, it is a treat to be able to hike or ride at a leisurely pace up a quiet trail. Such benefits can be assured for future generations if Scotchman Peaks is classified as wilderness.
Please vote “in favor” of the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness question on next Tuesday’s primary ballot.
