SANDPOINT — A Bonner County teen is facing a felony battery charge for allegedly breaking the jaw of another man earlier this month.

Hunter Lee Peterson made an initial court appearance via video feed from the Bonner County Jail on Tuesday. Judge Tera Harden set Peterson’s bail at $1,000 and entered an order prohibiting him from contacting the alleged victim in the case. A public defender has been appointed to represent Peterson, court records indicate.

A sheriff’s deputy was summoned to Cadillac Ranch off Dufort Road near Priest River on Saturday after receiving a report of a battery. The alleged victim’s jaw was broken in two places and required surgery to implant five plates, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Peterson, 18, is charged with aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm or disfigurement. He is being prosecuted as an adult.

Peterson admitted being involved in the altercation and striking the alleged victim when he was questioned by the deputy, the affidavit said.

A preliminary hearing on the charge is set for May 17.
