Livingston, Slaveck lead Bulldogs at districts

SANDPOINT — Allura Livingston and Jenny Slaveck slammed their way in to the finals in girls singles, while April and Amy Clark did the same in girls doubles, leading the Bulldog tennis team on day one of the 4A Region 1 tennis tournament on Friday at Travers Park, City Beach and Lakeview Courts.

Livingston had to face teammate Alana Seifert in the semis, scoring a 6-4, 6-2 win, while Slaveck simply overpowered her opponents.

“Allura will play for the championship against Jenny in a match of power vs finesse. This will be incredible,” predicted Bulldog head coach Kent Anderson, touching on Livingston’s win in the semis over Seifert. “The two friends battled with long, grueling points. They both play similar styles placing balls in the open court forcing each other to work for every point.”

The Clark sisters will be looking to gain the top seed out of districts with a win over Moscow’s No. 1 in the final, in what figures to be a tight showdown.

Christian Story lost his first round match, but battled back for a tough three-set win in consolation to set up a consolation semi against Lakeland’s Jorge Bonacho, who lost in the semis.

“Christian got tougher as the match wore on in a gritty and solid performance,” said Anderson. “His forehand cross courts were lethal, using power and precision.”

A host of Bulldogs are still alive in consolation, and will battle today for the coveted state berths.

The finals and consolation rounds start at 9 a.m. at Travers Park only.
