Asleep at the wheel?

Mrs. Rose, In your letter dated April 25 you were critical of native or long-term Bonner County residents. You asked if we had been asleep at the wheel when it came to improvements of our area.

Let me answer you. No.

You are so typical of many, but not all, new people to the area who like to crititcize. We’ve heard this many times from “newbies” such as yourself. You move to this area never bothering to learn the history and thinking you have the answers.

I don’t know if you frequent the East Bonner County Library, but if you enjoy it, you have no knowledge that Bonner County voters passed a bond to build the library long before you came. You have no knowledge that Bonner County voters passed another bond to build new law enforcement building getting it out of the cramped and outdated area in the courthouse. You were not here when Bonner County voters passed a bond to build new schools and improve others. You were not here when Bonner County residents worked on cleaning up the lake, working with the ACE to compromise the lake drawdown helping better salmon fishing. You did not spend your energy and state taxes over the long, 30-year fight for or against the bypass. You were not here when we worked to get a better animal shelter. You have not had to scratch out a living working in the timber industry. We have tried to have the things you criticize us for but we have found it’s the newbies that come here that put up the resistance for improvements.
