Johansen crowned state champion After a tough showing at her first-ever Nationals in Oklahoma in March, Sandpoint Middle School’s Kayelin Johansen rallied back to the top of the podium with first place finishes at the recent Washington Quad State Viper Wrestling Tournament in Nampa. Johansen was crowned state champion at 114 pounds in the school girls division in both Freestyle and Folkstyle. Johansen, a member of Team Idaho, will compete in June at the Turf Wars in Pocatello, then will begin preparing for her freshman season at SHS. “I cannot wait to join the high school team and compete for Sandpoint High School. I have wrestled for coach (Jake) Stark in the Top Dog program and am now ready to go to the next level,” said Johansen. “Girls wrestling has grown in Idaho, more than doubling each year.” (Courtesy photo)
