June blooms with a full slate of entertainment

SANDPOINT — As we head into the lovely month of June, we’re not just turning a corner, we’re taking it on two wheels, baby!

The action starts tonight with one of the busiest Thursdays ever. And once the weekend starts — look out. Indoors and out, morning and night, there’s a full slate of fun in store. A few standouts include the library grand opening, arboretum celebration and Claude Bourbon dinner concert — all on Saturday.

Thursday, May 31

SHS Choirs Spring Fling

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

The Panida hosts the Sandpoint High School Choirs’ Spring Fling. Choirs will sing and dance, with production numbers and many solos as well.

‘The Groove is Not Trivial’

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

The subject of this new documentary is world-renowned Scottish fiddler, Alasdair Fraser.

State of the Scotchman’s annual address

Venue: Oden Hall, 143 Sunnyside Road.

Time: Social hour, 6 p.m.; Joslin’s presentation, 7 p.m.

Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness holds its annual State of the Scotchman’s address. Mountain goat expert Gayle Joslin will be the featured speaker. Learn who the FSPW Old Goat is and get a chance to bid on some interesting items as part of the silent auction.

Yappy Hour

Venue: Evans Brothers Coffee Roasters, 524 Church St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 4-7 p.m.

It’s a tail-waggin’ good time as Evans Brothers Coffee, hosts another Yappy Hour to benefit Panhandle Animal Shelter.

Admission: Free and open to the public

Ben Olson

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

A longtime local with a great sound you’ve probably heard with his band Harold’s IGA. Tonight, hear him in a solo format.

Trivia Takeover

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7 p.m.

A fun event for the winery; come check out the trivia. Teams encouraged, but not required.

Baja Boogie Band

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 8 p.m.

June is the beginning of summer in the Northwest and the Baja Boogie Boys are sure to get you in mid-summer form. This Inland Northwest group that will entertain you with diverse sounds blending Blues, Rock, Funk, and

Swing.

The Groove Black

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

The Groove Black is a trio of dynamic longtime Sandpoint locals: Brandon Watterson on guitar and lead vocals, Jason Stoddard on base and accompanying vocals and KC Carter with the percussion.

The Riff Hangers

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

These guys always show us a good time! Their country, blues and swing will have you tapping your feet.

‘Song of the Open Road’ on stage

Venue: Circle Moon Theater, Highway 211, 3 1/2 miles north of Highway 2, near Newport

Time: 6:30 p.m. dinner service, curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.

Join a cast of wise and quirky Hobos who find themselves with an unexpected challenge on their hands, complete with comical campfire wisdom and lively, beautiful song that promises to warm the heart.

Your Library Transformation Grand Opening

Venue: East Bonner Co. Library Dist. Sandpoint Branch, 1407 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Noon-4 p.m.

The remodel and expansion of the Sandpoint Library is undergoing a transformation to better serve our community! Join the fun for brief presentations followed by a special announcement from Library Director Ann Nichols.

Cake will be served along with hourly entertainment by SHS Chamber Choir, Cecil the Magician, Folk Remedy, and Bridges Home with Dave and Tami Gunter. Guided tours will be given for the first hour with self-guided tours of the entire facility (including non-public areas of the building and grounds) open until 4 p.m.

Sand Creek Paddlers’ Challenge

Venue: City Beach Pavilion, Sandpoint City Beach.

Time: check-in and on-site registration is from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the City Beach Pavilion. Pre-race meetings start at 9:30 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m.

Families and serious racers alike, come join the Sandpoint Parks & Recreation Department for the Annual Sand Creek Paddlers’ Challenge. The 4-mile paddle up and back on Sand Creek has three separate divisions: two race divisions, solo and tandem, a recreation division for those who don’t want to leave a wake, and an SUP (stand up paddleboard) division. Trophies for first place in each division and random drawings for prizes.

Admission: $12 per boat/vessel.

Arboretum Celebration and Native Plant Sale

Venue: Lakeview Park, Ontario St., next to memorial Field, in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

This is the Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society’s 39th annual native plant sale at the Native Plant Arboretum, co-sponsored by Sandpoint Parks and Recreation. There will be an unveiling of several new interpretive signs that have been installed in the Arboretum. The plant sale will follow the presentation with a wide selection of native trees, shrubs and perennials, as well as a variety of handcrafted items such as planters and note cards, plus baked goods.

Claude Bourbon Concert
