Hot entertainment rocks community into November

SANDPOINT — Rockin’ our way into November, we are, with a full slate of fun.

Tonight, the three-day Sandpoint Film Festival gets started at the Panida with a moving documentary titled, “How to Diffuse a Bomb.” Friday features POAC’s SHS AP Art Exhibit, Saturday gets rolling with the Friends of the Library used book sale and on Sunday, it’s a family dance at Community Hall.

Just down the road in Newport, the Pend Oreille Players are staging the hilarious “Crumpled Classics” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

But that just scratches the surface — let’s dig in:

Thursday, Nov. 1

Sandpoint Film Festival

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

We wait all year for this excellent festival and the time has come! This first night starts things off with a special showing of the award-winning documentary, ‘How to Diffuse a Bomb’ — a chronicle of The Troubles in Northern Ireland and how one man’s vision helped lead to peace.

Friday, Nov. 2

Sandpoint Film Festival

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

He wait is over and this superb film festival is underway. This second night features a special showing of the award-winning documentary, ‘Skid Row Marathon.’ Admission: Tickets available online at: panida.org

POAC’s Sandpoint High School AP Art Exhibit

Venue: Columbia Bank Community Plaza, 414 Church St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7 p.m.

Advanced Placement student artists Alana Seifert and Kelda Rial will display their works in preparation for their graduation in December and a new journey beyond high school. Sponsored by the Pend Oreille Arts Council.

Bright Moments

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

This show is a must-see, as Arthur Goldblum fronts an even bigger than usual band for a lively evening of music.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Ben Olson & Cadie Archer

Venue: Idaho Pour Authority, 203 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-7 p.m.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Devon Wade

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint Idaho with a strong love for what country music has always been — songs about real life.

‘Crumpled Classics’

Venue: Pend Oreille Playhouse, 236 S. Union St., in Newport, Wash.

Time: 7 p.m. (Additional shows on Nov. 3, 4, 9, 10 & 11)

Five classic tales told with a teenagers’ twist and performed by young actors. Written by Craig Sodaro.

Saturday, Nov. 3

Sandpoint Film Festival

Time: Block showings at noon, 3 p.m., and 6 p.m.

We wait all year for this excellent festival and the time has come! Saturday is all about the short films, with a Block 1 showing from Noon-2 p.m., Block 2 from 3-5 p.m., and Block 3 from 6-8 p.m.

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale

Venue: East Bonner County Library, 1407 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Parents and teachers, this sale is for you. We have a wide selection of beautiful non-fiction for ages 9 through teens, classroom references and lovely picture books. Copyrights are current. Since we are heading into the holiday season, so we are also featuring better books for holiday gift giving, Christmas stories, CDs, crafts and recipes. All media is specially priced.

Sadie Sicilia and The Reckoning, plus Sadie & Jenai Duo Set — what a night! Sadie is back in Sandpoint after her big show at the Panida Theater. Plus, there will be a special set from Sadie & her mother, Jenai.

Isaiah Beard

Isaiah Beard is a progressive folk artist hailing from Nashville whose music fuses classical and jazz stylings with that of the modern indie/folk variety.

Harold’s IGA

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

A Sandpoint favorite multi-instrumental trio that plays folk rock originals and

off-the-beaten track covers from artists like Ween, Talking Heads and Violent Femmes.

Community Family Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 3-5 p.m.

Sandpoint Parks and Recreation partners with Beth Weber, Emily Faulkner, and Lost Horse Press bring this Family Dance to Sandpoint. Dancing for the whole family and the whole community: big circles, long lines, maybe a square or two ... all easy and big fun. How about a family waltz?

Live music with Beth Weber and Friends, with all dances taught and called by Emily Faulkner. No experience needed, we’ll all find partners when we get to the dance. Finger food potluck snack at the break, bring water bottles.

Wednesday, Nov. 7

Paint & Sip with Kem Davis-Hughes

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301, Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Join Kem Hughes-Davis and the Pend d’Oreille Winery for an evening of painting and sipping and snacking! This will be a winter-themed Paint and Sip using a wine bottle as the canvas! The finished product will make a beautiful holiday decoration or gift.

Bingo is back at the Beer Hall and don’t forget, it’s free, just like the popcorn! The longer you stay, the more cards you get. Bring your own markers (not dobbers) like M&Ms, Skittles, pennies, etc. Every game is different and last game starts at 8 p.m. Prizes for the lucky winners.

Friday, Nov. 9

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate the chill in the air by dancing with friends — those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Featuring live music by Spokane band Dog Paw, with Emily Faulkner as the caller. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.
