I am solidly pro-life and I am voting yes on Proposition 2 to expand Medicaid for Idaho. Pro-life means caring for the physical needs of all humans throughout life, including the 62,000 Idahoans who do not have insurance.
Certain so-called “right-to-life” organizations are spreading inaccurate information about Proposition 2 claiming that it would empower Planned Parenthood to perform abortions at government expense. However, this is simply not true; the Hyde Amendment prohibits government funding of abortion with rare exceptions. Additionally these “right-to-life” organizations also claim that the over-the-counter contraceptive Plan B causes abortion. This is also not true because Plan B prevents conception — it does not terminate an existing pregnancy.
The “right-to-life” groups oppose Proposition 2 because, they claim, that it could, possibly, funnel money to Planned Parenthood for both abortive and non-abortive services. However, we must not let hatred for Planned Parenthood cloud our judgment on providing medical insurance to Idahoans who desperately need it. Providing medical insurance is the loving, Christian act.
Please be a good Samaritan and good citizen; vote yes on Proposition 2.
