SANDPOINT — I’ll keep this brief: Films and more films, crazy cool concerts, plays, open mic nights and dances.

Plus, the opening of Leon Atkinson’s Friends of the Guitar Hour classical guitar series and another fine Native Heritage Film Series showing at The Library.

Thursday, Nov. 8

Pop-Up Open Mic

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301, Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6-8 p.m.

Whet your palette with an immersive pairing of your favorite Pend d’Oreille wine and a mélange of fiction, poetry, storytelling, and creative nonfiction readings at Sandpoint Literary Collective’s Pop-up Open Mic Night.

Pour out your own pieces or simply revel in those crafted by your friends and neighbors. Each writer will have five minutes to muse the masses. Arrive early for a glass of wine and a cheese plate.

‘The Guilty’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Second in the 4-part foreign film series is the new Danish Thriller, The Guilty. When police officer Asger Holm (Jakob Cedergren) is demoted to deskwork, he expects a sleepy beat as an emergency dispatcher. That all changes when he answers a panicked phone call from a kidnapped woman.

BZN ‘Film Rodeo’ film festival

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

Bozeman’s inaugural BZN International Film Festival is hitting the road to share its award-winning films with audiences around the PNW.

Jimmy Smith

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 8-11 p.m.

The ex-Gourds songwriter will entertain you with his solo drum stomping, guitar banging and vocalizing.

Friday, Nov. 9

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Featuring live music by Spokane band Dog Paw, with Emily Faulkner as the caller. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 p.m.

Admission: Suggested donation is $5 per person. Please bring finger food to share. Sponsored by Emily Faulkner, Lost Horse Press and Sandpoint Parks & Rec.

POAC Northern Panhandle Landscape Art Show

Venue: The Power House, 120 Lake St. (next to Sandpoint Marina), in Sandpoint.

POAC artist members have looked outside to create works that recall this place and its beauty through traditional and modern methods for this The Northern Panhandle Landscape Art Show.

Friends of the Guitar Hour presents Mak Grgic & Adam del Monte in Concert

Venue: Holy Names Music Center, 3910 W. Custer Dr., in Spokane.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

If you enjoy Leon Atkinson’s weekly show, The Guitar Hour, on Spokane Public Radio-KPBX-FM, you’re in for a real treat with this opening classical guitar concert of the annual series. These two guitarists sizzle as soloists and really soar in their duo segments.

Browne Salmon Truck

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301, Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

They’re fun, they’re talented and they’re one of the coolest groups around, playing a mix of vintage, contemporary blues, jazz and Latin music. Admission: Free and open to the public.

Aaron Golay Band

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

The 219 hosts Twin Falls, Idaho based

Golay’s sound is soulful rock ‘n roll, with plenty of upbeat pop and dance influences seamlessly tied in.

Ron Greene & Guest

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

As a soloist, Greene’s intimate stage presence has gained him a reputation as a passionate singer and paired with a special guest, it’s a full fun sound that rocks house.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Harvest Dinner

Venue: Hope Memorial Community Center, 415 Wellington Place, in Hope.

Time: 5:30 p.m.

A delicious, traditional holiday dinner with all the trimmings is in store, plus fun bucket raffles. Please bring non-perishable food items for the Christmas Giving Program.

‘Crumpled Classics’

Venue: Pend Oreille Playhouse, 236 S. Union St., in Newport, Wash.

Five classic tales told with a teenagers’ twist and performed by young actors. Written by Craig Sodaro.

‘Mankiller’

Venue: East Bonner County Library, 1407 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The official selection of the Los Angeles Film Festival, Mankiller is the story of another Native American woman — a hero and legend, one who stands tall amongst the likes of Robert Kennedy, Harriet Tubman, and Martin Luther King, Jr. — the late Wilma Mankiller.

The Native American Film Series is a partnership of The Idaho Mythweaver and East Bonner Co. Library Dist. and funded by Idaho Community Foundation, TransEco Services and endorsed by the Bonner Co. Human Rights Task Force.

Pray For Snow Party with RFB

The music starts at 7 p.m. with RFB (Right Front Burner) — Sandpoint’s finest party band featuring funk, disco, rock and groovy tunes.

Mad Bomber Brewing, a veteran-owned brewery out of Hayden, will be on hand from 5-8 p.m., serving some of their best brews. Veterans receive 2-for-1 pricing all day and a portion of sales for the entire day will go to the Sandpoint VFW to help local veterans in need. Music by Devon Wade from 9-midnight.

The Conversation — ‘Ward Tollbom: Tell It As It Is’

Sandpoint’s native son and wildlife artist, Ward Tollbom, shoots the truth straight with humor and frankness gained from working as a professional artist since 1973.
