Nov. 20, 1968 — NO BUYERS FOR FARMIN

Bonner County School District has failed a second time to sell the Old Farmin school property in downtown Sandpoint. The first order of business at Tuesday’s school board meeting was the disposal of the property, but board clerk Wayne Hagadone announced that no bids had been received on the 60-year-old building which has been declared surplus. The building and land were appraised at $175,000.

SCHWEITZER TO OPEN

More rain than snow has fallen at Schweitzer Basin the past few days, but tentative plans are to begin operations this weekend, followed by a Thanksgiving Day opening of continuous seven-day-a-week operations. Manager Wormington cautioned skiers that they should check last-minute radio snow reports for definite word.

There is nearly four feet of snow in the T-bar No. 3 area atop the mountain, and a good snow blanket in higher portions of the bowl traversed by “Grandpa Bear” (No.1) - but six or more inches of snow is needed at lower elevations.

MARINERS TO MEET SUNDAY

Mariners, the adult couples group of First Presbyterian Church, Sandpoint, will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Murray, Oden Bay, for a crab and pizza supper followed by a musical program.

Nov. 20, 1918 — “FLU” BAN LIFTED

The Spanish influenza ban, on since Oct. 10, is being lifted by the state board of health which advised county health officers the ban will be raised at 8 o’clock Sunday morning. Church services will thus be permitted and the two local picture houses will open their doors that day.

DEATH OF WILLIAM THOMAS

Word has been received from New York of the death of William L. Thomas, son of I.F. Thomas, former secretary at the Armstead mine. It is understood that he died of influenza. The young man was a sophomore in the Sandpoint high school last year, and his death is the third from influenza among the school members.

GEORGE ROSS MAKES EXPLANATION

The investigating committee of the county defense council has recommended in re George E. Ross: First, that the loan committee was justified in publishing the correspondence; second, that inasmuch as Mr. Ross had not received the communication dated Oct. 14, 1918, until the 22d day of Oct. on account of illness, and then complied with the demand by buying $150 more of bonds, that these facts be given publicity and the matter closed, and that Mr. Ross should be exonerated from any charge of slackerism as to the fourth Liberty loan.
