Lake City's defense stymies SHS, Bulldogs fall 76-37

For a night, it felt like indoor track season on Les Rogers Court.
Lake City’s high pressure defense strolled into Sandpoint, scored six points in the first minute and cruised to a 76-37 victory. The Timberwolves forced 27 turnovers thanks to Klaire Mitchell and Dejah Wilson notching 10 steals apiece.
“I was pleased,” Lake City head coach James Anderson said, “We came out and pressured the ball, which was our big focus tonight. We’re very athletic, and for us to be successful, we need to create turnovers and a fast-paced game.”
Sandpoint junior Maddie Morgan led all scorers with 17 points, but most came when the Lake City coasted in the third quarter.
“Credit to Lake City,” Sandpoint head coach Will Love said. “They got out quickly and got after us, and we weren’t mentally able to the respond they put to us. One of the things we work on every day is our anti-press, and the kids today just got flustered.”
Klaire Mitchell’s 14 points and 10 steals led the way for the Wolves. Dejah Wilson nearly had a double-double with nine points and a team-leading 11 steals and three assists. Chloe Teets led the way on the glass with three rebounds.
Sandpoint junior Maddie Morgan led all players with 17 points off of five 3s. Kaylee Banks came off the bench to add six points, and Hattie Larson had a game-high five rebounds to go with her eight points.
