Mary Donna Greeley, 67
Mary Donna Greeley passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 67.
Mary was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on April 14, 1951, to Charles Greeley and Joanne (Lockhart) Greeley. They divorced when she was very young and Mary then lived with her maternal grandmother, Helen Brough and her husband in many small logging camps and towns all around Colorado, seldom living in one place more than six months at a time. A few of the places she lived were remote cabins with no electricity, running water or indoor plumbing. She had many unique experiences, including being struck by a speeding car on the highway when she was 5 and surviving with no more than scrapes and bruises.
In 1961, at age 10, after her grandmother experienced serious health issues, Mary and her older brother, Tim Greeley, moved to Boise, Idaho, and would spend the remainder of their school-age years living with their uncle and aunt, Ed and Donna Troxel, and their cousins Lon, Melissa and Van, who became her new brothers and sister. In 1964, Mary’s mother, Joanne Lockhart, moved to Boise and joined the family. When Mary was a junior in high school (1967) she moved to Moscow, Idaho, when her Uncle Ed took a job coaching at the University of Idaho. That year, her youngest cousin, Andy, was born also. She would go on to graduate from Moscow High School in 1969, attend the University of Idaho, and joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority where she made several lifelong friends.
In 1971, she married her high school sweetheart, Bob Myklebust, and they lived in Moscow, Coeur d’Alene, then Sandpoint, Idaho, where they worked in men’s clothing stores owned by Bob’s family. Their son, Rob was born in Sandpoint in 1975. Mary and Bob later divorced.
Mary spent the majority of her adult life in Sandpoint raising her son. Countless days were spent enjoying the City Beach, Lake Pend Oreille and all that Sandpoint has to offer. She was a devoted mother and attended nearly every soccer, football, and especially baseball games that her son played growing up in Sandpoint. Mary spent her final 18 years in Sandpoint working at the Bonner Humane Society, first as a volunteer and went on to become the office manager for several years. Mary had a true passion for animals, especially dogs and cats, including her two Dobermans, Max and Charlie.
In 2006, Mary moved to Nampa to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, Sara Myklebust, and future granddaughter, Hailey Myklebust. Mary was truly devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time together at the condo in McCall, camping trips, Sunday visits, and spoiling her granddaughter with crafts and books they could work on and read together. While living in Nampa, Mary continued her passion of working with animals at Canyon Small Animal Hospital in Caldwell where she made numerous friends and truly enjoyed working with the CSAH team.
Mary absolutely loved catching up with her family and spending time with them and was thrilled this past June when nearly her entire extended family gathered in Boise to celebrate her Aunt Donna’s 90th birthday. Another annual family highlight for Mary was the Ed Troxel Foundation Golf Tournament in Kennewick, Washington, where a large number of extended family members gather on an annual basis.
The holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas were truly special for Mary and she will be incredibly missed at these times and always.
Mary is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, Rob, Sara, and Hailey Myklebust, of Boise; her beloved aunt, Donna Troxel (who raised Mary) of Kennewick; her brother, Tim Greeley of Boise; her cousins Lon Troxel (Jeane) of Indio, California, Melissa Cole (Bruce) of Salmon, Idaho, Van Troxel (Karen) of Coeur d’Alene, and Andy (Juli) Troxel of Kennewick; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Helen Brough; her mother, Joanne Lockhart; and uncle, Ed Troxel.
Mary requested no memorial services be held. A celebration of life will be held at a yet-to-be-determined date.
