Barbara Joy Blood, 98
Barbara Joy Blood, 98, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at the Sandpoint United Methodist Church with Pastor Pearl Wistler officiating.
Barbara was born on May 7, 1920 in Elgin, Nebraska to Ralph and Mary Whitmore. She grew up and attended schools in Nebraska, graduating from Sunol High School in 1939. Her family moved to Sandpoint where she met and later married Irvin Blood on Nov. 27, 1941.
Barbara’s philosophy was that “Everyone makes their own happiness.” She attended night school at Spokane Community College and earned a degree in hospital food service. Barbara worked for Bonner General Health for 28 years, retiring as kitchen supervisor in 1982.
She has been a member of the Sandpoint United Methodist Church for 77 years, in addition, the Red Hat Society, Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars, TOPS, and was a Woman of Wisdom in 2003. She enjoyed the county fair, volunteered at the soup kitchen for years and enjoyed quilting and decorating cakes.
She is survived by her three sons, David (Freida) Blood of Medical Lake, Wash., Dan (Cindy) Blood of Sandpoint, and Jerry (Honda) Blood of Careywood, Idaho; five grandchildren, Chris, Kami, Daneil, Joshua, and Leon; and eight great-grandchildren, Halle, Sienna, Reagan, Lars, Leif, Karl, Tesla, and Jerry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin Blood; grandson, Nathan Blood; three sisters, Hope Jones, Esther Reed, and Jean Evans; and one brother, Hugh Whitmore.
