COEUR d’ALENE — Lauren Phillips had 12 kills, 20 assists and eight digs for the Vikings in a 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 17-15 nonleague loss to the Bulldogs Tuesday night in nonleague volleyball at Coeur d’Alene High School.

The Bulldogs (15-7) earned the season sweep of the Vikings (14-7), and have now beaten four straight 5A programs.

“It was a battle of who could get the momentum tonight,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We had our moments and did some good things, but couldn’t get points in a row.”

Sandpoint hosts Lake City (22-1) on Thursday night in what could be their toughest home match of the season.

SPOKANE — Sandpoint finished 3-2 and tied for 21st, losing to Gonzaga Prep 25-19, 22-25, 15-9, then beating Wenatchee 25-15, 25-23 and Clarkston 25-19, 25-27, 15-9 in pool play.

“We saw a higher level of competition than we had been seeing and it forced us to look at where we still have some holes in the game plan, which can be easily remedied,” said Bulldog head coach Jeff Hurst. “The girls played hard and played well much of the time. It was a good push for the gals as we continue to ramp up for the remainder of our season and our run toward state.”

In Gold Bracket play, Sandpoint beat Ferris 25-21, 21-25, 20-18 before losing to Lewis and Clark 25-12, 25-19. Hurst praised the play of outside hitter Jenny Slaveck.

“Jenny on the outside was a bright spot by consistently bringing big heat from the left pin,” described Hurst.
