Oct. 4, 1968 — SEEK ALBENI AID

Reevaluation of Congressional guidelines for operations of Albeni Falls Dam might be the route to get the minimum pool level lifted 5 feet, it was learned from Col. Richard McConnell, Seattle district engineer, and Congressman James McClure at a Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce meeting. For years, the chamber has argued for a higher winter pool elevation on Lake Pend Oreille. Joined by resort and marina owners, the group has set a minimum level of 2,056 feet above sea level as the goal. In contrast, the Corps attempts to keep the level as near to 2,051 as possible in the winter season.

For marina and resort people the problem of lake level is serious. When the level does not rise above 2,056 until after May 1, the resort season is shortened by a month. “We have to live 12 months on what we make in three,” said Mrs. Hoyt Schuyler, of the Island View Trailer Park and Boat Harbor, Hope peninsula.

EAKIN-GLENN WEDDING

Miss Nancy Sue Eakin, Sandpoint, and Lawrence M. Glenn, Ketchum, Idaho, were married at First Presbyterian Church Sept. 8. Pastor Clarence Twigg performed the service.

Dr. and Mrs. L.F. Eakin, Sandpoint, are parents of the bride. The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. James Glenn, Ketchum. The Glenns will reside in Alexandria, Va.

Oct. 4, 1918 — WILLI MAKES PURCHASE

Phil Willi of the Bonner Meat company has purchased from Farmin & Son the unimproved corner lot fronting on Cedar and Second, one of the most valuable corners in the city. The land fronts 120 ft. on Second and 160 ft. on Cedar. Mr. Willi has no plans for improving the property, as the war will prevent work of that kind, but after the war is over he expects to erect a building on it, possibly a hotel or apartment house.

SAVE WRAPPING PAPER

The food administration wishes to urge the stricktest (sic) economy in the use of wrapping paper, string and bags. The government needs the paper for wadding for guns.

NEW SCHOOL OF STENOGRAPHY

Our government has asked for 10,000 more stenographers. It is the patriotic duty of every qualified stenographer to answer the call at once. Those who have time and ability must fit themselves to take the place of this vast civilian army or they are no true American. It is to help you help your country in this crisis that Mrs. H.C. Hayes is organizing a class in stenography at 530 Pine street. Women with husbands in the service, and smart ambitious girls without means, explore what Mrs. Hayes has to offer.
