Bruce, Prevost, Clark lead Bullpup XC team

SANDPOINT — Isaac Bruce posted his second consecutive win to start the season, leading the Sandpoint Middle School boys cross country team to its third straight win, beating six other schools on Saturday at Travers Park.

The Bullpups scored 25, well ahead of second place Coeur d’Alene Charter. Bruce was first by 22 seconds in a time of 8:22 on the flat 1.5 mile course. A strong pack of five scoring runners were in the top eight and it was the third different combination of scoring runners in their third meet.

Evan Dickson was 4th in 8:56, Jett Longanecker 5th in 8:58, Miles Landrum 7th in 9:00 and Nathan Roche 8th in 9:03. Another pack of Bullpups pushed back some Charter runners to put a few more points on them. Emmett Morgan in 11th, Ryder Haynes in 12th and Aden Heitz 14th. The Bullpups put four more runners in the top 30 of 75 with William Dotson 21st, Gavin Nicholson 23rd, Crosby Schmidt 28th and Andrew Duke 30th.

Rounding out the Bullpup boys were Hunter Calvert 31st, Will Jordan 32nd, Caleb Hutchings 36th, Kody Bocksch 41st, Davis Goodwin 44th, Anders Eastley 46th, Breckin Nevarez 49th, Ethan Barcklay 50th, Austin Billstin 53rd, Daniel Ricks 54th, Jacob Champion 56th, Noah Darrin 57th, Silas Blair 59th, Evan Holt 61st.

Ayiana Prevost led the Bullpup girls to their first victory of the season, finally overtaking Charter 41 to 31, as the Bullpups placed second to the Panthers in the previous two meets. Prevost got her first individual win of her career with time 9:33.

Then a pack of three Bullpups pushed back four of the five scoring runners from Charter, led by Isabelle Walkington in 4th, Korbynn Tonge 5th and Ara Clark 6th. Maren Davis came in 15th and was the 5th scoring runner and led a pack of four, including Kora Converse 16th, Payton Betz 17th, Terra Bode in 18th, Etta Francis 32nd, Tru Tomco 34th, Katya Lambert 36th, Katelyn Greenway 39th, Grace Giles 51st, Aurla Palmer 52nd and Audrey Hewitt 63rd.

Bruce also placed first in 8:41 at a meet in Timberlake, again beating the next closet runner by 22 seconds. SMS had some runners step up in the absence of previously scoring runners Slate Fragso and Cody Moore. Despite missing two of their faster runners, the Bullpups still took six of the top 10 spots.

Evan Dickson, 5th in 9:34, continues to lead the impressive Bullpup pack, followed by Miles Landrum 7th in 9:37, Aden Heitz 9:41, Jett Longanecker 9:43 and Nathan Roche 9:43. This pack pushed back the 4th and 5th runner from Charter to secure the victory 35 to 30.

The Bullpups had 11 of the top 30 out of 95 runners, led by Emmett Morgan 16th, Crosby Schmidt 19th, Ryder Haynes 21st, William Dotson 27th and Gavin Nicholson 30th.

Ara Clark and Korbynn Tonge provided a one two punch leading the Bullpups to 2nd place finish. Clark was 1st in 10:04 and Tonge 2nd in 10:21 in her strongest race yet. Ayiann Prevost was 10th, Isabelle Walkington 11th, and Kora Converse 20th to round out the scoring.
