Wampus Cats earn season sweep of 3A Badgers

| October 4, 2018 1:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — Three Wampus Cats hit double figures in kills, and Brooke Stevens had a big night with 40 set assists, six kills, nine digs and three aces, as Clark Fork earned a 14-25, 26-24, 25-14, 27-25 win over Bonners Ferry during the Dig Pink cancer awareness fundraising night.

Ellie Kiebert hammered 16 kills to go with 21 digs, Tessa Sutton added 13 kills and seven digs and Hailey Bristol 10 kills, 20 digs and two aces, as the Wampus Cats (11-5) earned the season sweep over the 3A Badgers.

“Boy the match was a barn burner,” described head coach Cindy Derr. “Neither team gave up without a fight.”

Derr, who is currently battling cancer, was one of many on hand who were honored, as teams wore pink to honor both cancer victims and survivors and to raise money.

“They honored all the cancer patients that did not survive as well as the ones fighting the battle currently. Special recognition was given to a Bonners Ferry senior who is currently fighting cancer and they honored me for the battle I am fighting with cancer. It was very overwhelming.”

The Cats handled the emotion well on the court, as Ellie Lambert tallied 17 digs and Aleehia Valliere eight to anchor the back row on a night with some tight sets.

“Bonners sent back a lot of free balls so we were able to run a lot of plays,” described Derr of the action. “This was a great tune up for our tournament this Saturday in Genessee.”

Clark Fork is at Wallace tonight.
