Constantin, Icardo lead Wampus Cats over Knights

PLUMMER — It wasn’t as pretty as head coach Brian Arthun would have liked, but the Wampus Cats rallied from a poor first half to notch a 26-8 nonleague win over Lakeside on Friday night in Plummer.

Nate Hernandez caught a 60 yard touchdown from Cameron Garcia, Chase Sutton hauled in a 40 yard strike from Garcia, Dakota West ran in a 45 yard touchdown and Garcia scored on a 20 yard run for the Wampus Cats (5-2), who trailed 8-6 after a listless first half.

“All week long I was warning them about Lakeside, that we beat them handily the first time and it would be a different team. The guys just didn’t get off the bus. We beat ourselves, they just weren’t focused,” lamented Arthun. “I got after them a little bit at halftime, and in the second half we took it to them. Were able to control the line of scrimmage and hit some big passing plays.”

Josh Constantin had three sacks on defense, and Theo Icardo had an interception and several big hits after sitting out the first half, changing the energy of the team.
