Lake City sweeps Sandpoint

| October 9, 2018 1:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint got a chance to bang against one of the best teams in the state for the second time in four days, once against coming up short as the Bulldogs were swept 25-12, 25-17, 25-22 by the Timberwolves on Monday night in nonleague volleyball at Lake City High School.

The host Timberwolves served strong and played a solid all-around game, coach Mike Summers said.

“We served really aggressively. We controlled each set from the start,” Summers said. “Our girls were focused and took care of the task at hand.”

Ashley Kaufman had 11 kills and Janae Rayborn four aces for Lake City (25-1), while Klaire Mitchell, one of the top setters in the state, had 26 assists.

Bulldogs (16-9) coach Jeff Hurst hoped the tough looks against Lake City will serve his team well as it heads into districts and possibly state.

Sandpoint hosts Lakeland tonight in a 4A Inland Empire League match, hoping to remain undefeated in league play.
