| October 10, 2018 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Seniors Grace Hicks and Jazmin Stockton formed a potent one-two punch at the net, coming up with big spikes every time their team needed it, leading Sandpoint to a 25-16, 25-17, 24-26, 25-18 win over Lakeland in 4A Inland Empire League volleyball Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

Hicks finished with 17 kills 10 digs and three aces, and Stockton 15 kills and 10 digs, as the Bulldogs (17-9, 3-0 4A IEL) clinched the No. 1 seed and home court advantage for districts.

“It was a solid league win. We’ trying to tempo the ball up, and Grace and Jazmin have the athletic ability to play at that tempo,” lauded Bulldog head coach Jeff Hurst, who used the word camaraderie to sum up his class on Senior Night. “The other day they said ‘we really like each other.’ They enjoy being a team together.”

Shelby Kluver added five kills and nine digs, Marina Breuner six digs and several lengthy service runs late in sets while setting the attack, Lillian Anderson nine digs and Helen Barden six digs as the four joined Hicks, Stockton and Bailey Klopman on Senior Night.

Daphne Carroll hammered 20 kills, Katy Ryan had 12 kills and three blocks, Jenny Wirtz seven blocks, Abigail Neff 30 set assists and Madison Van Gelder five aces for the Hawks (19-11, 2-2 4A IEL), who could be a dark horse at the district tournament.

Sandpoint is at Moscow on Thursday.
