Week knocks entertainment ball out of the park

SANDPOINT — We’re knocking the ball right outta the park this week, with a little bit of anything and everything on the entertainment docket.

The action starts tonight with a director/writer Q&A following the screening of the film ‘Farmer of the Year’ at the Panida. Friday brings us the opening show of the POAC Performing Arts Series with the band Roosevelt Dime and our own BareGrass opening the evening. Also Friday, Mobius Riff at Eichardt’s Pub and a Contra dance at Community Hall.

Saturday is just plain nuts, starting with Fall for Sandpoint all day at downtown merchants, the Angels Over Sandpoint barn dance and the final day of Farmers Market.

But that ain’t all, not by a long shot:

Thursday, Oct. 11

‘Farmer of the Year’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

This showing features a live question-and-answer session with the director and writer. ‘Farmer of the Year’ is making its mark on the Festival Circuit. This mostly local duo will be here to talk it up and give insight into the making of this dramatic comedy. After aging farmer, Hap Anderson, loses his wife and sells the farm, he struggles to maintain his youth by road-tripping cross-country in a ‘73 Winnebago.

‘Backstage’ Volunteer Night

Venue: Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash St., in Bonners Ferry.

Time: 5:30 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 12

Roosevelt Dime & BareGrass

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m., concert starts at 7 p.m.

Opening the POAC Performing Arts Series, Roosevelt Dime blends syncopated New Orleans rhythms, boogie-woogie banjo, swinging blues guitar, and searingly soulful vocals. Join Roosevelt Dime and local favorite BareGrass for an earth-shaking show.

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate the turn of the season and the joys of community by dancing with friends — those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Featuring live music with great local and regional bands and lively callers. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.

Ron Greene & Brian Burke

Ron Greene is heading north for another special night at the Beer Hall. Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West Coast. As a soloist Greene’s intimate stage presence has gained him a reputation as a passionate singer and paired with his friend Brian Burke, it’s a full fun sound that rocks house.

Saturday, Oct. 13

Fall for Sandpoint

Venue: Downtown merchants

Time: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Sandpoint celebrates Fall for Sandpoint with sales, in-store games and prizes, kids’ activities, and more.

Participating merchants are teamed with local nonprofit organizations to bring you a day to shop, save and share. Product demonstrations, food and beverage samplings, and fun stuff for kids are just part of the fun. A portion of the shopping proceeds from the day will be donated to participating nonprofits. Enter to win prizes! Show off your pooch in the doggie fashion show. Join your friends and neighbors to shop local, save local, and give local.

Angels Over Sandpoint Fall Frolic Barn Dance.

Spokane Symphony ‘Cirque de la Symphonie’

Gravity-defying circus feats are set to Russian classical music masterpieces performed by the Spokane Symphony in this first of six pop concerts this season.

Bob Beadling

Spokane String Quartet

The Spokane String Quartet opens its 40th season with three outstanding string quartets celebrating three centuries of chamber music with influences ranging from the cello-playing King Frederick of Prussia to the 20th century’s foremost patron of chamber music, Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge.
