Shelton belts ace as Cats post win on Senior Night

CLARK FORK — Ali Sutton had a 10 point service run in the first set, and Brooke Stevens a 20 point run in the second set, as the Wampus Cats swept Kootenai 25-13, 25-6, 25-9 in North Star League volleyball on Senior Night in Clark Fork.

Stevens posted 21 assists and 10 aces, Ellie Kiebert nine kills and five aces, Hailey Bristol five kills and Ali Sutton six aces for the Wampus Cats (15-9, 9-0 NSL).

One of the highlights of the night was when Kootenai allowed Clark Fork to win the coin toss, and senior Grace Shelton, who had knee surgery two plus weeks ago, came out and hit an ace on her first attempt.

“She then came out of the game but was able to start on her Senior Night and was very happy to be part of this experience,” said Cats head coach Cindy Derr. “There were lots of tears when she was able to play. It’s been a rough year for her. All six seniors started the first set.”

Shelton, Stevens, Bristol, Ali Sutton, Tessa Sutton and Ellie Lambert were honored before the game. The stellar class are all four year varsity players.

“Ellie Lambert turned in her libero shirt for the first set and played all the way around, playing middle hitter in the front row and had one kill,” described Derr. “She then switched back to her libero jersey and did a good job in the back row.”

It’s Homecoming week in Clark Fork, and the football team was on hand to fire the crowd up and make for a festive Senior Night.
