My grandfather received an all-expense paid tour of Europe in the 1940s courtesy of the United States government. He was a lieutenant in the 8th infantry division and was put ashore in France a couple of weeks after D-Day. He had to fight his way across France, Belgium and Luxembourg, and was part of the occupying force in Germany. As such he was a first-hand witness to the atrocities committed by the national socialists.
It is outlandish and personally offensive to me for the editor of the Daily Bee to invoke the words of Martin Niemoller, to draw some kind of moral equivalence between the victims of the national socialists and the subjects of two juvenile flyers and an asinine robocall. To claim that the local media is under “attack “ and are being “assaulted “ just because some unknown idiot is exercising their right to free speech is completely absurd.
Very few people would know about these flyers and the robocall if the local media wasn’t hyping them and grandstanding for sympathy.
If you think that you are in any way comparable to the brave veterans of World War II or the victims of the atrocities of the 1940s national socialists, it is you who needs a history lesson.
