Four Bulldog swimmers go undefeated in Cd'A

COEUR d’ALENE — Mikayla Schoening won the 50 and 100 free, Hayden Norling the 100 and 200 free, Garret Bamer the 50 free and 100 back, and Jacob Ballard the 200 IM and 100 breast, as all four Bulldogs also won two relays to post four wins on Saturday at the Kroc Center.

The Sandpoint boys beat Lewiston 124-94, lost 128-115 to Moscow, and beat Post Falls 127-111 duals scoring, while the girls swept Post Falls 163-96, Moscow 172-87 and Lewiston 188-69 in a dominating showing as teams tuned up for districts.

“All athletes are performing well,” said Bulldogs head coach Greg Jackson. “We have put in hard work in preparation of districts and state. We hope to win districts for both the women and men.”

Kate Bokowy, Autumn Morgan, Sierra Speakman and Schoening won the 200 medley relay, and Morgan, Schoening, Bokowy and Kaya Wright won the 200 free relay as the Bulldogs dominated in the relays.

Morgan won the 100 breast and was 3rd 200 IM, Bokowy 2nd in 200 IM and 3rd in 50 free, Speakman 2nd in 100 fly and 3rd in 500 free, Sabrina Wilson 2nd in 100 breast and 5th in 200 free, Bri Brosnahan 3rd in 100 breast, Wright 4th 50 free and 500 free, Caitlyn Smith 4th in 100 back and Charlie LeBlanc 5th 100 back to round out the top five individual placers.

Bamer, Ballard, Jack Grzincic and Norling won both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay, and could have the speed to make some noise at state.

William Dorman was 2nd in the 50 free and 100 fly, Grzincic 4th in 200 IM, Hayden Leavitt 4th in 200 free and 5th in 500 free, and Jake Aitken 4th in 100 breast and 5th in 50 free for the top five placers.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention and training regimen to districts, this Friday and Saturday in Coeur d’Alene, and state, which is the following weekend. Under a new state format, districts is now the qualifier for, instead of just qualifying times. Each event will have automatic qualification for top two individual finishers and top one relay finish in the 4A and below classifications combined.

“We hope to win at least half of the automatic spots,” said Jackson, noting the most recent meet was tough physically. “We have been working very hard, and the swimmers were far from rested. Their performances, in my opinion, defied the odds. All performed well above my expectations.”
