SCHWEITZER PLANS LIFT EXPANSION

The largest expansion program by any ski area in the Northwest - possibly in the nation - is under way at Schweitzer Basin.

Five lifts are involved - 3 new high-capacity double chairs and relocation and lengthening of two T-Bars. Total capacity of Schweitzer’s seven lifts will be about 5500 per hour.

Two new chair lifts, replacing T-Bars in the southern portion of the bowl, will be called “Baby Bear” and “Momma Bear,” 1348 and 2569 ft. long, respectively. The third new chair lift - No. 4, to be called “Poppa Bear” will have a length of 3472 ft. T-Bars Nos. 1 and 2, which pioneered the south portion of the bowl, were dismantled and will be re-installed, opening two additional areas. No. 1 will extend into Colburn basin to the north of the Schweitzer bowl. No. 2 will extend into the protected Jack Creek basin adjoining Schweitzer’s north rim. The upper terminals of the T-Bars will be near “Poppa Bear’s” terminal.

So far the babies have not had a sick day and she wishes to take every precaution to guard against disease. The children are kept at home on the screened porch where they will not come in contact with anyone but family members.
