Drop everything & bask in entertainment overload

SANDPOINT – Drop everything and get ready for entertainment overload this week.

There are concerts galore, including Neighbor John at the Panida on Saturday and banjo man Danny Barnes at DiLuna’s Café on Sunday.

The long-awaited grand opening of Matchwood Brewing Company takes place Saturday afternoon and into the evening and, also Saturday, the Native Heritage Film Series is starting up again with two free showings at The Library.

Yet another Saturday offering comes our way at the Pend d’Oreille Winery production facility on North Boyer, with a tasting of the first vintage from new owners Jim Bopp and Kylie Presta.

On Sunday morning, the Refugee Children’s Choir performs at First Presbyterian Church.

‘Farmer of the Year’

Justin Landis & Brendan Kelty

Landis, a fixture on the Sandpoint music scene for years and Kelty, a relative newcomer to Sandpoint, will share the stage while performing Indie, Rock, Folk, Pop and Mountain Soul.

Muffy & The Riff

Devon Wade

Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint Idaho with a strong love for what country music has always been – songs about real life.

Saturday, Oct. 20

‘United By Water’

Venue: East Bonner County Library, 1407 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Part of the Native Heritage Film Series, ‘United By Water’ is a documentary film that chronicles the riverine journeys to Kettle Falls in June 2016 of the Upper Columbia United Tribes — Kootenai (Ktunaxa), Kalispel (Qlispe’), Coeur d’Alene (Schitsu’umsh), Spokane (Spokan), and members of the Confederated (11) Tribes of the Colville Reservation in traditional, newly carved, cedar dugout canoes.

A War Pony Pictures production, directed by Derrick Lamere, and narrated by Shelly Boyd with poetry by Sherman Alexie, the film has won numerous awards. It is the first time that it has been shown in Sandpoint.

The Native American Film Series is a partnership of The Idaho Mythweaver and East Bonner Co. Library Dist. and funded by Idaho Community Foundation, TransEco Services and endorsed by the Bonner Co. Human Rights Task Force.

Neighbor John

This benefit concert for Arlo’s Ristorante stars Neighbor John Kelley & the Nuclear Fusion Groove Band, with opening band Captain Chris Lynch’s Wild Musical Mystery Ride, plus some extra special guests.

Matchwood Brewing Company’s Grand Opening & Benefit

Matchwood Brewing Company, Granary District at 513 Oak St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 2-10 p.m.

After three years of hard work, from concept to construction to craft beer and community space, this family-friendly event will feature handcrafted beer, wine, food, a community benefit for a local single dad facing medical costs, plus live music featuring Squirrel Butter from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Larry Myer from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Bum Jungle from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

First Vintage Party

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery Production Facility, 2625 North Boyer Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 3-6 p.m.

Celebrate the First Vintage of wine that Jim Bopp and Kylie Presta created since becoming owners! There will be hors d’oeuvres, wine specials, music with Larry Mooney and games.

Please note: The downtown tasting room will close at 3 p.m. so that staff can attend this event.

Vannah Oh!

Donning the moniker Vannah Oh!, Spokane-based singer songwriter Lindsay Johnston blends folk, jazz, and blues to create a set of original tunes and surprising covers.

Bob Beadling

Venue: Cedar Street Bistro Wine Bar, on the Cedar Street Bridge, in Sandpoint.

Classical meets contemporary under the hands of this talented and popular pianist.

Spokane Symphony performs Mozart & Beethoven

Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Time: 8 p.m.

Pianist Alon Goldstein, a favorite of Eckart Preu, is the soloist for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21, one of the composer’s greatest and most melodic concertos. It is followed by Beethoven’s technically challenging Third Symphony, ‘Eroica.’

Scott Kirby

Time: 2-4 p.m.

Scott is a master of ragtime and early American styles – just for starters. Hear him play on the winery’s stunning, historic 1870 Decker Brothers concert grand piano.

Danny Barnes

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

2015 winner of the Steve Martin Prize for excellence in banjo & bluegrass, Danny Barnes is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and genre-bending artists of his craft.

Barnes’ musical interests are both varied and adventurous, and he incorporates that versatility into a progressive approach to an instrument that is musically polarizing and steeped in tradition.

Refugee Children’s Choir concert

Venue: First Presbyterian Church, 417 N. Fourth Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 10:30 a.m.

This youth choir is made up of children - refugees from countries in Africa, Sudan, Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, South Africa, and Tanzania - who range in age from 10-17 years old. The community is invited to come join in the music, dance, and the joy of youth.
