SHS hosts Lethbridge tonight

| October 19, 2018 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — There will be two games of great interest to the Bulldogs on Friday night: Their Senior Night home game against Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, and the 4A Inland Empire League clash in Moscow where the Bears are hosting the Hawks in a game that will greatly affect the post season.

The Bulldogs (2-6) rolled back the clock and played three yards and a cloud of dust football last week, and the strategy worked in a 34-19 ground and pound win over Lakeland. Dillan Mitton continues to carry the load offensively, rushing a whopping 40 times for 140 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Lethbridge (6-2) beat Raymond 24-21, while Sandpoint beat Raymond 28-21 in the only common opponent game, so at least by that metric things appear pretty even.

While that game is taking place at Barlow Stadium, the Bulldogs’ post-season will be dictated by what happens in the Moscow/Lakaland game, after the Bulldogs previously lost to the Bears and beat the Hawks.

A Moscow win means the Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed from the region, and would likely travel a ways to face No. 1 state ranked Hillcrest in the first round. A Lakeland win means the three teams will meet for a one-day, three-way Kansas City tie-breaker on Monday at a neutral spot.

But first things first for the Bulldogs, who will look to keep clicking and build momentum for the playoffs with a win tonight against another Canadian foe.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Barlow Stadium.
