IGA CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

The Sandpoint IGA in the Fifth Ave. Shopping Center will hold an anniversary sale Fri. and Sat. commemorating 25 years in business. Special events planned by owners Harold, Clyde and Emmett Marley will highlight the two-day event.

The Marley brothers’ operation began in 1943 across the street from the present location in the Sandpoint Cold Storage locker plant. One line after another was added and soon the locker plant, meat cutting operations and small grocery store outgrew its location. In 1950 the grocery moved across the street to its present location. The brothers are now planning another major remodeling and enlargement. Russ Kotschevar, local contractor and designer, will assist them.

The operation currently employs 18 people: Thomas Spade and Dave Saasen, assistant managers; Bodene Kemmis, bakery mgr.; Jerry Ferrell, produce mgr.; Andy Black, meat dept. mgr.; Elsie Campbell, snack bar mgr.; George Friesen, warehouse foreman; Mrs. Lillian Marley, meat dept.; Ron Hunt and Duane Simon stock boys; Mrs. Ruby Kimball and Mrs. Ina Hawkins, bakery; Barbara Roberts and Karen Roos, snack bar; Judy Mask, Thelma Thomas and Kathie Buck, cashiers; Mrs. Kathryn Coker, in charge of the ice cream making dept.
