Sept. 6, 1968 — THREE INJURED

Don L. Sonard, 47, Reno, and two passengers were hospitalized after he lost control of his car while overtaking Frank Linscott, 25, Sandpoint, who was driving a farm tractor south across the long bridge on U.S. 95 Saturday.

Officer Harvey Riffle reported that Sonard’s 1955 Ford went out of control when its brakes locked and it slid on the bridge before hitting the tractor. Linscott was not hurt.

1968 FAIR ROYALTY

Patty Spade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.L. Spade, was chosen queen of the 1968 Bonner County fair. Fair king is Bob McPherson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walt McPherson. Rhea Anderson, 1967 fair queen and Bob Wood, vice chairman of the fair board, presented the winners with light-colored royal Stetsons with ribbons that proclaimed them queen and king of the fair.

MOTOR MOVIE CLOSES FOR SEASON

Sandpoint Motor Movie closed this week as school started and Floyd L. Gray announced that the Panida Theater will operate from Thursday through Sunday.

Russ Freeman, Fish Hatchery road, reported that a bear ripped the cover off his garbage box.

Sept. 6, 1918 — HEITMAN RANCH SOLD

The Heitman ranch at Blanchard has changed hands again, J.R. Delp and C.S. Coward selling to S.G. Morin of Spokane, who give three cottages in Spokane as part payment and the balance cash. Total consideration is reportedly $42,500, which includes the value of the hay and 62 head of cattle and horses plus buildings and farm implements. The ranch has an area of 361 acres, of which 300 are under cultivation.

CENTRAL BUILDING CROWDED

Enrollment at the city schools shows a crowded condition for the Central school building. The outside schools are not crowded but on account of the center of population near the Central building and the confinement of the high school grades and eighth grade to the Central building, it, as usual, is presenting a hard proposition in the matter of taking care of all the pupils entitled to go to it.

AMERICAN FOOD SAVINGS LARGE

Despite a subnormal food supply, Americans have shipped to the allies as well as our own forces overseas 141,000 bushels of wheat and 844,000,000 pounds of meat in the year ending June 30th. This was made possible by the whole-souled cooperation of the people, who, besides practicing self-denial, have speeded up production and responded nobly to the appeal.
