SANDPOINT — Feels like the weather is turning cooler, but the entertainment scene is as hot as ever this week.

Check out the newly restored Beatles animated classic ‘Yellow Submarine’ this weekend at the Panida and enjoy the 10th annual Scenic Half half-marathon and 10K Fun Run on Sunday, starting at City Beach. Friday night is packed with fun, as DiLuna’s brings back The Lark & The Loon for a dinner concert and the Contra Dance warms up the boards at Community Hall.

On Saturday, the fabulous vocals of Maya Goldblum will be backed up by Bright Moments at Sandpoint Farmers Market.

Thursday, Sept. 13

‘Backstage’ Volunteer Night

‘Talking Pictures’ art reception

Venue: Evans Brothers Coffee Roasters, 535 Church St., Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7 p.m.

Inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibit, ‘Talking Pictures: Camera Phone Conversations Between Artists,’ Sandpoint artists bring you their interpretation of this innovative exhibition. A group of three pairs of artists came together in early February 2018 to begin a ‘visual dialogue’ through digital communication.

‘Yellow Submarine’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., Sandpoint.

It’s the 50th anniversary of their 1968 classic animated feature, ‘Yellow Submarine.’ Generations of fans have come together for screenings across the country and now you have one last chance to get them singing along to many of The Beatles’ catchiest, most iconic tunes.

The Lark & The Loon

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Lark and the Loon are a songwriting duo consisting of husband/wife team Jeff Rolfzen and Rocky Steen-Rolfzen. The two bring their distinct writing styles together in what they call an exploration in the etymology of American music. They take inspiration from prewar blues and jazz, Irish dance music, sea shanties, and traditional American music as well. Heralded for their harmonies, duets, and musicianship, the two have enjoyed touring extensively both in the U.S. and abroad.

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., Sandpoint.

Celebrate the turn of the season and the joys of community by dancing with friends — those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Live music and lively callers. Beginners and singles welcome. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. The Ronaldos

The Ronaldos play an eclectic mix of music spanning six decades. Our influences range from the Beatles, CSN, Kenny Loggins, Doobie Brothers, and Kinks to John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Sting, Billy Joel as well as some original music. They have been playing in the Northwest for over 40 years each and have the experience to accommodate any type of audience. They’re fun, tight and professional.

The duo currently consists Ron Criscione on guitar and vocals, and Ray Younker, on bass, electric guitar and vocals.

Scenic Half half-marathon and 10K Fun Run

Venue: Race starts at City Beach, 58 Bridge St., Sandpoint.

Time: Half marathon begins at 8 a.m., 10K starts at 8:15 a.m.

With a route across Sandpoint’s iconic Long Bridge, offering panoramic views of Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding mountains — what else could it be called but the ‘Scenic Half Marathon!’

The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce hosts two events, giving participants the option to compete in a 13.1 mile Half Marathon or a 10K. Each independent race awards age category winners and Half Marathon competitors who complete the race receive a finisher’s medal.

Registration: Online registration is open until Fri., Sept. 14 at noon at: ScenicHalf.com. In-person registration is available on Saturday only during the Scenic Half Registration Party from 2-5 p.m. at MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., Sandpoint.
