On Tuesday, Nov. 6, we will have a chance to be heard. No matter what our opinions are on issues or candidates, no matter whether we blame Republicans or Democrats, we can all agree on this fact: our government at every level is letting us down, and we all know it.

Medicaid expansion will be on the ballot. A large majority of Idahoans support this non-partisan initiative. To provide working Idahoans with healthcare is the right thing to do. It will return federal taxes we are already paying to us, instead of sending it to other states. The county will save money, a popular idea in Bonner County.

Medicaid could be improved, as could almost everything. Our leaders have had the chance for decades to propose better solutions. They have failed us. They have not done their job. We have had to take matters into our own hands. By passing the initiative, Idaho legislators will be forced to expand Medicaid.

We will also send a strong message to our politicians that they are not doing what we have elected them to do. Passing this initiative is a wake up call to our leaders: “Be Americans. Find solutions to our most pressing problems through compromise and compassion.”

If you want Medicaid expansion, vote. If you want elected officials to do a better job, vote.

If you want your vote to count, vote. Now is the time to come to the aid of our country.
