VFW post announces essay contests

Do you a local student who could use a $30,000 scholarship?

Idaho students in grades 6-12 in the Priest River area can earn awards and scholarships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen competitions beginning in October, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2909 announced on their Facebook page.

The first step is getting an entry form and contest rules — and VFW Post 2909 in Priest River is working with local schools in a public, private, parochial high schools or a home-study program to make that happen.

“We thank teachers and youth leaders for the time, effort and commitment they invest in our students each year,” said Commander Joe English from VFW Post 2909. “Last year we gave local students about $500 — and this year, we want to help them earn even more — and possibly a visit to Washington, D.C.”

Parents and students can get entry forms from VFW Post 2909 at VFWPost2909@gmail.com or from their local school office.
