Ron DeNova wins U-Pick'Em honors

| September 20, 2018 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Local Ron DeNova, of Gateway Financial Partners, picked 11 games correctly to win the weekly prize of a $25 gift card in the Pro Football U-Pick’Em Contest, sponsored by the Daily Bee.

DeNova, who started his financial career on the Chicago Board of Trade, edged a host of people by one game when he correctly picked 11 winners. A hunch says he might have got a leg up by picking Da’ Bears (who can forget the classic Saturday Night Live skit) over the local favorite Seahawks.

Hitting on 10 games were former Bonner County Sheriff Elaine Savage, Dale Vanhorn, longtime Bulldog assistant football coach Al Beard and SHS vice principal Derek Dickinson. Dickinson, who won last week with a score of 11, leads the overall standings by one game at 21. The season winner will claim the grand prize of a two-night stay at the Kootenai River Inn and Spa.

In the VIP standings, longtime voice of the Bulldogs Bob Witte leads recently retired former Bulldog great Dave Demers 18-17, with both very much in the running for the grand prize.

So far, 83 locals have signed up. While it might be too late to catch the overall leaders, it’s not too late to sign up, with 15 more chances to win a weekly $25 Visa gift card. It’s easy, simply sign up, pick the games each week and compete for prizes.
