Head of the Pend Oreille Regatta returns Saturday

PRIEST RIVER — In July of this summer, there was a life-altering occurrence in the Miller family, as Austin Miller, 18, accompanied by family, Greg, Kim and Kendall, moved to Sandpoint.

Ever since the beginning of his high school years, Austin wanted to not only attend Washington State University, but to also be a member of the men’s crew team.

After giving his heart and soul to North Bay Rowing in California, he was ready to join the Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association, and rowed in the Priest River-based club, which hosts the Pend Oreille Regatta on Saturday.

After competing and being hand-selected for the Cougar Crew last week, Miller, a freshman at WSU, is living an exhilarating college life. He is immensely excited for competing with some of the nation’s best rowing teams in the near future, not to mention the sheer enjoyment he gains by passing on his current rowing experiences to his friends and family.

Miller is following in the footsteps of another PORPA member and Cougar junior, Ben Jakeman, son of Greg and Elisa Jakeman, who made the Cougar Crew when he was a freshman at WSU.
