KENDRICK — Sophomore quarterback Cameron Garcia threw for three touchdowns and ran for a score to lead the Wampus Cats, but it was simply tough sledding against the No. 2 ranked team in the state, as a fast and physical Deary squad blew out Clark Fork 72-28 on Friday night at Deary High School.

Riding a four game win streak, the Wampus Cats (4-2) knew they were up against a juggernaut in Deary (5-1), a longtime 1A Division II power and the second ranked team in the state for a reason.

“They jumped out early on us and got us on the ropes right off the bat. It was everything as advertised,” said Cats head coach Brian Arthun. “I thought we had decent team speed, but they had an extra gear that we didn’t. They were physical up front, pushed us around.”

Clark Fork had some success moving the ball through the air, with Garcia hooking up with Chase Sutton for 85 and 25 yard scores, as well as a 65 yard strike to Nate Hernandez. He also ran for a one yard score to cap a strong night.

Arthun praised the toughness of Garcia, who stared down the defense and delivered the ball under pressure.

“He threw the ball well, we had some success through the air. He took a lot of hits, but stayed it he pocket and threw a strike. He bounced back,” praised Arthun. “In the second half we played a lot better, outscored them two touchdowns to one, but it was too little, too late.”

The Wampus Cats are at Lakeside next Friday in a nonleague game.
