With one week left on the spring schedule, Sandpoint Legacy Wrestling Club has been working hard to end their initial season with some strong team appearances in Chewelah and Colville, on March 23 and 30, respectively.

The club also sent a handful of individuals to the 2019 Montana Open on March 30-31.

In Chewelah on March 23, the team had ten wrestlers medal, including first place finishes by Beau Cates, Zak Wood, Miro Parr-Coffin and Colter Cates.

Rounding out the team’s performances on the podium, Logan Wood, Maxx Watson and Gage Martin placed second; while Tyler Wood, Axel Jones and Conner Brown placed third.

On March 30 the team had representation in Colville, Washington and Billings, Montana at two different tournaments. Despite splitting the team between the events, both groups found success.

Miro Parr-Coffin, Tyler Wood and Zak Wood competed in the 2019 Montana Open on March 30 and 31.

Both Tyler and Zak made it to the quarter finals of their 64-man brackets before their second losses of the weekend knocked them from contention.

Parr-Coffin, who wrestled in two brackets, finished first in the 10-and-under 50 pound bracket and earned third in the 8-and-under 50 pound class.

In Colville thirteen Legacy wrestlers participated in the Compton Memorial Tournament and nine placed in the top three of their brackets.

Logan Wood, Axel Jones and Colter Cates took home first; second place medals went to Joel Holub, Carter Yetter and Lincoln Balch; third place finishers were Beau Cates, Conner Brown and Gage Martin.

The team is competing in its last tournament, the Jason Crawford Memorial Tournament in Spokane, Washington, on April 6. It will be held at the Spokane Arena.
