Local museum seeking 'superheroes'

| April 6, 2019 1:00 AM

Bonner County History Museum officials have announced the organization’s newest volunteering opportunity — the Superhero Squad.

“Want to join a team of inspired thinkers? Have time, talent, ideas, expertise, or connections to share?,” museum officials ask in a press release. “Are you a change maker? An idea generator? Consider applying to be a part of the museum’s Superhero Squad.”

The group of “Superhero Squad” volunteers will meet monthly to discuss, and implement, creative ideas for helping the museum fulfill its mission of history creating community.

If you are interested, you can find an application on the museum’s website, bonnercountyhistory.org under the Support/Volunteer tab. Simply fill out the form and return it either in person, by mail, or email to: Bonner County History Museum, 611 S. Ella Ave., Sandpoint, ID 83864; or bchs@frontier.com.

In a press release announcing the squad, museum officials said the organization is always seeking more opportunities to become involved with the community and share the community’s collective history, from updating permanent exhibits and conducting tours and community presentations to revamping educational programs and designing new special events.

Founded in 1972, the Bonner County History Museum has been collecting and preserving the Bonner County region’s significant stories for over 40 years. The museum is located in view of Lake Pend Oreille in beautiful Lakeview Park. The park has many amenities including picnic areas, a playground, tennis courts, and the Native Plant Society arboretum. Adjacent to Lakeview Park is Memorial Field which has a boat launch and is home to the Festival at Sandpoint every August.

A private, non-profit educational organization, the Bonner County History Museum is a membership organization, open to all. It operates thanks to community support, membership fees, gifts, retail sales and donations, and grants from private foundations. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and on the first Saturday of each month, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free admission.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 seniors, $1 for youth 6-18 years old, and free for those under 6 years old.
