Panhandle RAC seeking project proopsals

| April 10, 2019 1:00 AM

The Idaho Panhandle Resource Advisory Committee will be accepting project proposals starting April 1, 2019, for review and consideration for funding. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 1, 2019.

Applications for RAC proposals can be obtained at fs.usda.gov/main/ipnf/workingtogether/advisorycommittees, or by request from the RAC Coordinator Phillip Blundell via email at phillip.blundell@usda.gov.

RAC-funded projects must be located on national forest system lands in Shoshone, Kootenai, Benewah, Boundary or Bonner counties, or on nearby lands if the project will benefit resources on the national forests. Projects can be completed by Forest Service personnel, through partnership agreements, or by open-bid contracting with individuals and corporations. The RAC works closely with the Forest Service to recommend projects that will benefit forest health, fish, wildlife, soils, watersheds and other resources; maintains roads, trails and other infrastructure; or control noxious weeds. Approximately $650,000 is available for allocation to projects through the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act for 2019.

Potential project sponsors are encouraged to contact their local Forest Service offices to obtain information that may be needed for a proposal, including a Forest Service contact and to ensure proper agreements and paperwork are completed that will enable the project sponsor to obtain funding if approved by the RAC.

Completed applications must be received either electronically or by hardcopy form on or before the June 1, 2019 deadline. Applicants may submit completed proposal application by email to phillip.blundell@usda.gov or by mail to Idaho Panhandle RAC, Attn: Phillip Blundell, P.O. Box 159, Smelterville, Idaho 83868.

The RAC will review and recommend project proposals for approval at their next meeting scheduled for Friday, June 21, 2019, starting at 9 a.m. at the Idaho Panhandle National Forest Headquarters located at 3815 Schreiber Way, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815. Meetings are always open to the public. Selected project sponsors should be prepared to make a short presentation to the RAC on June 21 if asked.
