April 11, 1969 – SPRING VACATION

School District No. 82 students are taking two days of spring vacation today and Friday.

Priest River, Priest Lake and Idaho Hill school students also had Wednesday off, as those schools had suffered less winter closures.

STUTZKE FISH TOPS JR. DIVISION

Bruce Stutzke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stutzke, is probably the happiest boy in Hope.

Last summer Bruce was fishing with Fred Page Jr. and boated a 13-lb. 7-oz. Kamloops, which was registered with Field and Stream magazine.

Bruce took first place in the junior division in what is considered a world contest, and so holds the 1968 world record for the junior division.

WOOD ELECTED PRESIDENT

Delbert Wood is the newly-elected president of the Bonner county Horsemen’s Assn. Jim Wood was reelected vice president and Winnie MacDonald is the new secretary-treasurer.

IMPORTED HOME

A completely finished three bedroom home was brought across the long bridge last Friday on its way to Sandpoint. Roy Moe had a permit to place the pre-built home on property on South Ella but the weather had not permitted the delivery of

the unit until last week.

April 11, 1919 – DOGS MUST PAY TAX

Under a state law passed by the last legislature a state tax of $2 upon male dogs and $4 on female dogs is levied and it is made the duty of the county assessor’s office to collect the tax. The dogs will be carried against their owners as part of the personal property tax.

SOLDIER BOYS HOME

Stanton McLaughlin arrived home yesterday after seven months’ overseas service.

Oscar Kalgren, who saw service as a member of Battery C, arrived home from Camp Lewis, where he was honorably discharged. Kalgren was sick with pneumonia and for a long time in a French hospital and was also in hospital several weeks in New York. He was surprised to run upon Sam Small who is still in New York getting mended up from a shattered arm. Kalgren also reported that William Polley, another Sandpoint boy who was wounded, is getting along nicely at the New York hospital where Kalgren was recuperating.

VICTORY LOAN TRAIN SPECIAL

The Victory loan war trophy train, which visits Sandpoint April 24, coming over the Northern Pacific from the west at 7 a.m. and leaving at 9 o’clock over the Great Northern, will give local people an opportunity to see a great variety of exhibits which went through the war.
