Kaleidoscope kids' artwork exhibit opens Friday

| April 11, 2019 1:00 AM

For over 20 years, volunteers from Pend Oreille Arts Council and Community Assistance League have perfected a program that brings hands-on art education into our local elementary schools. This program, called Kaleidoscope, enhances imagination and creativity.

That creativity will be on display at Columbia Bank Community Plaza, corner of Third Avenue and Oak Street, opening Friday, April 12 with an artists’ reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and everyone is invited to come see the outcomes of these inventive classes.

Kaleidoscope, a program co-sponsored by Community Assistance League, takes art education to elementary school children in grades three through five for hands-on lessons in visual arts.

This volunteer-driven program gives students the opportunity to learn how art can enhance their education while being a lot of fun.

Art education is much more than a fun activity, however. Children who take art lessons tend to be better students. They are better at hand-eye coordination, achieve higher scores in math and develop better problem solving skills than those who do not get the opportunity to participate.

It’s for these reasons that CAL and POAC bring this program into all the schools in Bonner County that lack in-school art teachers.

In addition to the arts council and CAL, the exhibit is sponsored by SOK design studio and MacNeill Family Dental.
